Tips for culling and processing your portrait images

In this group class, we’ll give you some general tips on how to organize, sort, cull, and process your portrait photos.

Here is a handy list of all the computer stuff (hard drives, etc.) that Bruce and Darlene use.

Notes for the outline below are available for students of Portrait Fundamentals.

What editing software to choose?

There are many photo editing programs on the market, here are just a few:

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements
  • Photoshop CC (full version)
  • Lightroom Classic
  • Lightroom CC
  • Luminar 4
  • On1
  • Topaz Studio
  • Capture One
  • Affinity
  • AfterShot Pro by Corel
  • And more…

If you aren’t sure which to choose read my review of 10 different programs here (note it’s in two parts).

Luminar Neo – my recommendation for beginners

If you wish to buy Luminar it is a one-time purchase, no monthly subscription fees! As a Skylum Ambassador, I can offer you a coupon code to get 10% off your entire cart. Use code: DPM10 when you buy Luminar Neo and checkout here.

Learning Luminar Neo

We have a complete Luminar Neo course for those students who want step-by-step instruction on how to use the software and make use of all it’s features. With over 16 hours of video tutorials, you’ll come to understand every aspect of the photo editing software as quickly as you want to apply yourself.

Our Luminar Neo Course

We also have a complete playlist of Luminar Neo training videos available for free on our YouTube channel, but they’re not organized in any way that teaches the software in an organized fashion. For that, you’ll want the complete course here in the store on our website.

NOTE: Non-destructive editing

Lightroom and Luminar do not alter your images directly, so saving inside those programs is not necessary. When editing with Photoshop or Elements or similar programs make sure you edit using layers and use “save as” so you do not save over your original camera files.

NOTE: To delete or not to delete

#4 – Process to preview quality

#5 – Fully process all chosen or top images

#6 – Exporting or saving the edit images
