Course Introduction – HDR Photography the Right Way!

  1. HDR Photography the Right Way
  2. Course Introduction – HDR Photography the Right Way!

Welcome to HDR Photography the Right Way!

This course is best experienced in the order the lessons are presented. You’ll be guided through the full HDR workflow—starting with how to properly capture bracketed images in-camera, and then moving into editing them step-by-step in Lightroom Classic and Luminar Neo.

Note: If you see a black screen with the message “Sorry, Because of it’s privacy settings, this video cannot be played here” skip to this section below to read how to fix.

In this introduction video, you’ll learn how the course is structured, what each lesson covers, and how to follow along using the downloadable RAW files provided. We’ll also show you how to navigate the course platform so you don’t miss anything along the way.

If you’re ready to gain confidence with HDR photography—from camera setup to clean, natural edits—this is where your journey begins.

Please take a moment to read this entire page before diving in. It includes important notes on how the course platform works, where to find your downloadable files, and how to get the most from each lesson. We also cover this in the welcome video, so don’t skip it!

You’ll begin by learning how to set up your camera for HDR photography, including what settings to use, how to bracket exposures, and when HDR is actually the right tool for the scene.

After that, we’ll show you how to merge and edit your bracketed images using the software of your choice—with examples, RAW files to follow along, and tips to help you avoid the most common HDR mistakes.

If you don’t already own the Luminar Neo software and you see the value in using it – please use this link to purchase it and use discount coupon code DPM10 to get 10% off your entire cart when you checkout. We get a small credit and you’ll pay the same price. It’s an affiliate link which means that Digital Photo Mentor earns a small commission for suggesting the software.

Photo Editing Terms Used Within the Course

photo editing terms explained

Throughout the course, I may reference a photo editing term you may or may not be familiar with. It’s fairly important to understand the definition of the term or phrase if you want to truly understand how the tool works or what I’m describing within the lessons.

Video related questions

Lesson videos are not downloadable. The course is designed to be watched online on this website (you can use any device). Our experience is that you will get a lot more out of the course by doing the exercises and taking one lesson at a time, rather than watching all the videos in a row. That of course if your choice but we highly recommend one at a time in order.

Black Screen – Video wont play – Sorry, because of privacy settings message. If you see a black screen where you would expect the video to be, with a message saying “Sorry, because of it’s privacy settings, this video cannot be played here.” here’s the explanation and solution.

Video Privacy Error Screen Example

Our video tutorials are set with protection so they can only be played within our website domain DigitalPhotoMentor.com. If you see this black screen, for some reason, our video hosting platform cannot communicate with your browser to confirm where the video is, so it displays the black screen. Something is “blocking” it from working.

It’s almost always a privacy utility you might be using on your browser that’s blocking it.

Do you use Bit Defender for example?

One student reported this back recently:

Thanks, Rob. The culprit was the Bitdefender Anti-tracking extension in MS Edge. When I turned it off, the videos played perfectly.

So ensure you check that, then refresh your browser and you should be good to go. Note, it’s possible you may have to clear your browser cache and cookies after adding the exclusion for this website.

Secondly, it’s possible you have your Chrome browser privacy set to “do not track”

The instructions in this Google Chrome Help article may help. Nobody has ever reported this to us, but I’m adding it in case it
