First of all, Happy New Year 2018!

Well, I don't know about you, but for me, 2017 was an interesting year. I had a lot of highs (going to Colombia and Morocco) and lows (breaking my ankle there), and even some new opportunities (welcomed a new tour leader to our team – Daniel).

But one thing I do know for sure is that we shared a lot of great tips and articles with you here on Digital Photo Mentor. So I decided to do a little roundup of some of the most popular ones over the last 12 months to give you a little reading to start off the new year.

Happy New Year Darlene. I’m interested in the reactions you got in Morocco when you tried to photograph people. The only success I had was when I shot from the hip or engagged them first and made them smile. One person chased me when I took a photo of his smoking outdoor griller, and insisted I trashed the photo in front of him on the spot. I suspect the see it as being objectified. I’m interested in your theory. Thanks Henk.

    • Hi @henkvandenbergen:disqus We often paid people on the street that we wanted to photograph. We work with a local guide and he is very good at doing this. So if you come with us on our tour we will make it possible for you. Some people did not want to be photographed, but after offering a tip they were more than happy. So everyone has a price it seems. We also get models in a couple places, dressed in traditional clothes, in a unique palace location for our guests to shoot.

Thanks Darlene. And you latest article answers my question in even greater debth.

        • No worries! The one that Daniel just did? Yes he is leading the Morocco tour this year.

  • Thanks for the insight, I know that I’m going to apply a few of these tips to my own photography.
