What makes a good black and white photo? How do you know when to convert an image to black and white, and when to keep it in color? Is it best to shoot in monochrome mode or convert later on the computer? These are all questions I get asked frequently. Here are a few tips to help you sort out when to shoot black and white, when to convert, and what to look for to create more dynamic black and white images.

Get a sense of learning to see light by looking at images in monochrome, or black and white. It reduces photography to purely tones and shapes and helps eliminate distractions. Black and white can be high contrast and dramatic as well and has a very different mode than color. Enjoy this set of black and white images to look at the light.
